Sharepoint Host With Exchange E-Mail Hosting 2007

December 4, 2008

Exchange Server 2007 is used only with Windows 64-bit x86-64 variants. It can be v8 as well as v8.1 with SP1. Still only thirty two bits are required for the trial version of this program. Anyway there are now some firms that go on using Exchange Server with thirty two-bit equipment. In order to turn to the new version of software they’ll need to change the hardware. Also it happens so that the firms are using previous 2000/2003 Exchange Server even with sixty four-bit hardware. In this case they will have to turn to the version of 2007 as it doesn’t allow to upgrade in-place.

“Exchange 12″, the 1st beta version of Exchange Server 2007, was let out in winter of 2005 first for a little number of testers. Later in March 2006 more people could use a new beta version via TechNet Plus or MSDN subscriptions as reported by Windows Exchange team. The next edition of the software was officially appointed to be called Exchange Server 2007 on April 25, 2006.

Exchange Server 2007 is one of the Innovative Communications Alliance products. The microsoft exchange server roles in Microsoft Exchange 2007 are to be like this:

1. Mailbox Role
It functions as a host fodifferent data available to people. The role is a feature to keep user folder information and keep personal e-mails. Still there can be another case. For clustering mailbox information with multi-functional MSCS Clustered Mailbox role is used. Still if this role is chosen, no other roles can be available on the sharepoint hosting at the same time.

2. Client Access Role
Client Access doesn’t use MAPI, it is meant for another mailbox server protocol access. It also lets use any comfortable features of Exchange 2003 FrontEnd server like ActiveSync (mobile device), POP3/IMAP4 mail clients or an OWA (Internet browser).

3. Unified Message or UM
The role makes it as well possible to use phones to enter mailboxes, calendars or anything. Still to let the server role work a user should think of things like IP-PBX or VoIP gateway.

4. The Role of Hub Transport
Hub Transport is meant to choose the way for every e-mail. They are resent to Edge, Mailbox or another HT servers. Exchange 2007 sorts the message flow using AD site info, which is not like in the strategy of 2003 when admin fixed routing groups were used.

5. Edge Transport or ET
That is the first step for inbox and the finishing one for outbox. In sharepoint hosting Edge Transport is thought to be a very convenient role. It’s applied to provide mail quarantine. It seems as well reasonable that ET doesn’t demand Active Directory access. Functioning with limited access to some company’s network is well enough for it to provide security.

Features of Server Roles and UI

Server configuration for Graphic User Interface and Cmdlet are linked with the server role concept. In Exchange 2007 each role that promises its own actions is made to complete them. As for Mailbox, its function is Get/Set-MailboxServer and the operator to check if it is functioning is IsMailboxServer. Correspondingly that will be Get/Set-ClientAccessServer and IsClientAccessServer for Client Access role. HT role with functions Get/Set-TransportServer will be quickly proved with IsHubTransportServer. And finally UM functions with operators like Get/Set-UmServer and IsUnifiedMessagingServer.
